RESEARCH : GRANDPARENTS Do we have sufficient respect for our grandparents?
Comparison:
We compared our work with Broklede school. We learnt that grandparents from an essential part of everyday lives for both the Dutch as well as Indians. The main difference is that in Indian families the grandparents live with the other family members that is, mostly people live in joint families whereas; the Dutch grandparents live separately. Even if the grandparents do not live together, the members of the family visit them often and their opinions are always asked before making any big decision.
Reflection:
1. Members of the families are very close to the grandparents.
2. We translated questions in a language that the grandparents were comfortable with before asking them and this made them more comfortable and so they could give better answers.
3. Most grandparents are retired and they could really give us time and answer our questions with a lot of enthusiasm.
4. Although while interviewing the grandchildren we shot the videos on our phones, not all elderly people are comfortable with taking videos and photographs. So, we only took notes while interviewing them. 5. We learnt that while dealing with interviewees of a senior age group, it is important to make things as simple as possible so that they too enjoy the process and can give better answers.
